We call him Hutton Button for a reason

Have you ever known a baby that loved his belly button so much that his finger is stuck inside it anytime he can get access?

Often his belly button is red and irritated because of all the digging around in there. He has also been known to stick someone else's finger in there if you let him. And it is not just his own belly button that he is fascinated with, he will stick his finger in yours if given the chance.

This has been going on for quite some time now and doesn't surprise me anymore, but just the other night he took it to a whole new level. He got some new pj's for Christmas {which I promise to fill you in on all of December including our many Christmases later!} that are zip up one pieces. We put him to bed in one of those pj's 2 nights ago and when it was time for us to go to bed we turned on the monitor in our room. Imagine my surprise when I saw this:

I thought that maybe Jered, who put him to bed on this night, unzipped his jammies for some reason {like maybe he was really hot or something, I did not know!} but when I asked him he said no. So that means my baby, my Hutton Button, unzipped his jammies just enough to stick his finger in his belly button while he slept! Crazy boy!

I could hardly believe it, but I went in his room to zip him back up and got the picture above that pretty much proves it. {It was taken without a flash so I didn't wake him up and the shutter was open forever! Thats why the color is a little funny.} I guess he is living up to the name Hutton Button after all!

It was a great year!

2009 was a great year for our family! It was amazing to watch Hutton grown from a baby to a toddler and learn more about his personality and who he is. He has definitely become the main source of entertainment in our family! But 2009 was not ALL about Hutton {just MOSTLY!}. We joined Hillside Christian Church January 11 and that has changed our lives. We really love going to church there and have both grown in our spiritual walk greatly through out this year. We have made friends that have become a big part of our lives through church. I also started a bible study in September that has taught me so much about my Savior and myself. I attended the Hillside Women's retreat and went to the Deeper Still conference in Oklahoma city, both experiences I will never forget. Jered and I took our first trip without Hutton and really loved the time together. Hutton had too many firsts to even list!

It has been funny to me to see everyone talk about how excited they are that 2009 is over, because I just don't understand being excited that such a great year is gone, but I know 2010 has some great thing in store for our family!

Last year I picked some of my favorite pictures from each month to just remember 2008, and I loved going back to look over everything, so I decided that would be a great way to look back on 2009 too. So here are my favorite pictures from the last 12 months. I have to tell you that I had trouble narrowing it down, so there are quite a few, but Hutton is just so darn cute!

January

Hutton started out the year as an almost 4 month old. He started sitting all by himself for very small amounts of time and I also noticed the brown spot in his eye for the first time this month. At the end of the month he went in for a well baby check and weighed 20 pounds 5 ounces and was 27 1/2 inches.

February

We visited Nana and Grandpa at the beginning of the month and Hutton got sick while we were there, but he got better quickly. He started reaching for me when I would go pick him up which was one of my favorite milestones. His first tooth came in on Valentine's day {Jered's and mine 6th Valentine's day together!} and his second tooth came later this month. He started rolling from his back to his tummy but couldn't get his arm out from under him!

March

He finally was able to get that arm out from under himself and could roll all over the place this month. He started pushing his booty in the air like he wanted to crawl at the beginning of the month and was pushing forward and scooting backwards but still no real crawling by the end of the month. He became a tummy sleeper and saw his first Amarillo snow.

April

He started giving big open mouth kisses this month! He had his first Easter and got to spend some time in Oklahoma with Pop's side of the family. He started eating Graduates snacks {yogurt melts and puffs} and loved them! He grew into mostly 12 month clothes and learned to clap and wave. He also started a little {very little} solid food this month: banana and avocado and got his 3rd tooth. He could go from lying down to sitting up and started pulling up onto his feet. He was 22 pounds 13 ounces and 28 1/2 inches when he went to the doctor on the 30th. And he also started doing a real crawl by the end of the month!

May

He started pulling up in everything this month! He also started eating a lot more foods {mangos, peaches, peas, apples, and sweet potatoes} and got his 4th tooth. He was dedicated to the Lord on my first Mother's day and went on his first trips to Dallas and Midland. He fed himself for the first time {a yogurt melt}. And Claire came over to stay with us for three days over Memorial day weekend.

June

Hutton had his first fever this month and was 24 pounds 14 ounces and 29 inches when we took him to the doctor for it {on the 4th}. He was eating solids 2 times a day and still nursing 5 times, by the end of the month he had his 2 top teeth in. He swam in the big pool for the first time and liked it okay. He said Hello, Momma, Dada and even Hola when we ask him to. Jered and I had our 4th wedding anniversary and Hutton went to Midland with Mimi and Marlie for Jessilyn's 5th birthday. That was his first night away from me! He gave up the pacifier this month with help from us! And got his new big boy car seat. He did his cute little bouncy dance for the first time when we were watching a DVD of church and Rob was singing. He also had his first big accident when he fell out of the wagon and scrapped his head this month. Jered's first Father's day was this month! Also my camera fell out of the golf cart and was broke this month, so there aren't as many pictures as other months, but I think there are still enough!

December

Wow! I think it is crazy how much he has grown! And on top of all that excitement, this is my 100th blog post! So maybe I will make it another 100 in 2010, who knows? Although it did take me almost 2 years to make it to the first 100, but I can think big, can't I?

Santa Baby

My baby got to go see Santa this year at Bass Pro Shops! Isn't that every boy's dream? Well I don't know about that, but he did okay with it all. He is at an age where Santa visits could go any which way; happy, sad, scared out of your mind... you get the picture. But I have to say that he is such an easy going baby that I would have been very surprised if he was one of those screaming Santa babies.

So here's how that encounter went down:

1. Hutton and I walked up to Santa and Hutton was not too sure about this guy and kept his distance.

2. I picked him up and started to hand him over to the big guy while Hutton gripped my shoulder rather tightly.

3. I set him in Santa's lap and he did not make a sound or move a muscle! In fact I'm not even sure he remembered to breath! But we did get some cute non smiling pictures and Hutton did not cry or scream or anything. I mean he DID NOT DO ANYTHING! I do think he was a little freaked out by it, but he was still such a good boy!

Then he got to do some Bass Pro-ish things like look at the fish and check out a new four wheeler.

He did seem way more fond of Santa's reindeer than he was of Santa himself.

So here's to hoping next year Hutton is a little more into Mr. Clause, or at least no more scared than he was this year!

Reunited and it feels so good!

I left Hutton with my mom for five days while Jered and I went to Mexico for a friend's wedding. As much as we both needed some time away and really LOVED our vacation, it was so good to be reunited with Hutton today! This is not my first time to leave him, Jered and I left him with his Mimi {Jered's mom} on our anniversary night back in June and just last weekend {December 4-6} I left him with Jered while I went to OKC to go to the Deeper Still Conference with the women from Jered's family. {That conference was great, by the way!} But definitely the longest I have left him, and did you catch the part where I said Mexico? As in a whole other country? As in no cell phones and no quick way to get back to Hutton if needed? Yes, I was more than a little anxious about it. In fact I made myself physically sick the day we left. {This is actually embarrassing to even admit!} I guess you might call it separation anxiety, but whatever it was, it was not okay! I mean I am going to have to be okay with being away from him at some point! But when we made it to the hotel after a rocky plane ride, I was already feeling much better. The trip was a great chance for me and Jered to have some time together again, which with Hutton around doesn't happen as often as we would like. And we got to see Sam and Regan get married {Jered was the best man} which was absolutely beautiful! So it was a huge blessing to us and a good opportunity for me to deal with my separation anxiety, but I was so glad to be home and see my baby boy and rock him to sleep tonight! I am so thankful for my time away with my husband and for my mom who kept Hutton, but I am also so thankful to be back! God is good! He knew just what I needed!

These are a few pictures that our friend Twyla did for us for our Christmas cards. There are lots more cute ones, but I haven't gotten the CD yet because we haven't been home in so long! So here are some of our favorites! If you get a Christmas card, some of these will look familiar.

Yes, he's always been big.

This is my friend Gabe and his wife Brooke,

Looking at this picture, I am sure you are wondering if Brooke is really short or if Gabe is really tall. Well Brooke is not short and she is wearing heels in this picture, so if you guessed Gabe is really tall, then you would be correct.

{On a side note, do you think its creepy that I stole this picture off facebook and am blogging about my friends without their knowledge or consent? I hope not!}

Yes Gabe is really tall, I think something like 6 foot 9 inches. The first time I had contact with Brooke, she called me on the phone because me and Jered were looking for a small group to join and they were starting one up so she just called a few couples names that the church gave her to introduce herself. The church had a lunch for people interested in small groups coming up that Sunday and she wanted to tell me that her and her husband would be there and hoped to meet us. Then she told me I would know who they were because her husband is seven feet tall. She was right! I could pick him out as soon as we walked in the door! I am very glad she called because we have loved being in a group with them and are great friends now.

But back to Gabe. I am pretty sure everywhere he goes and anyone he meets has something to say along the lines of "Wow, you are really tall!" {maybe some are more cleaver, but thats all I could come up with at the moment} when they first meet him. I haven't asked him if this ever gets annoying. {I hope not because if it does, he might also consider it annoying that I am writing about him on my blog!} But I will next time I see him, because I can now understand what that is like.

Hutton is a big boy! I am aware of this fact, but to me he is completely normal, actually perfect, so I don't think to notice how big he is. But everyone else we see in public does seem to notice how big he is!

I felt like this picture of him and Jered was a good comparison to show you how big he is.

I guess it is just funny to me that everyone notices! I always just say something like "yes, he's always been big" and then I usually end up having a conversation with a stranger about my child's abnormal size.

It really doesn't bother me, it is just something I have never experienced because I have always just been average size, so random strangers don't start conversations with me because of my size. Its something Gabe is totally able to relate to though!

Another funny thing about it is that many times it is someone making the comment that I wouldn't really think had any knowledge on average baby size. So ho do they know that mine happens to be huge? Like the cashiers at random stores who are 18 year old guys. I would expect it from other moms or grandmothers or even dads, but the high school age boys, who would have thought?

Maybe they have baby brothers or sisters, who knows?

And just to keep you up to date on the actual size of my baby, he had to go to the doctor on Tuesday and weighed 29 pounds 12.8 ounces. That doesn't sound so big, but I guess he carries all that weight in a particularly big way!

You know its hard to say if Hutton will always be big. {Well its actually impossible to say because no one can tell the future!} Both me and Jered would definitely fall into the average category, but I do want to remember what it is like to walk around with a giant baby and have everyone want to talk to me about it!

When they find out he is only 14 {almost 15} months old, then they are really surprised! I think next time someone asks I am going to tell them he is only 10 months old and see what happens!

This could turn out to be really funny!

2 winners!

Hutton really liked picking names, so he just picked two!

See for yourself...

He would have just kept picking until everyone's name was drawn, but I decided that 2 winners would be it for this contest!

So Shanna and Kassi, email me at cynthiakayemeeks@yahoo.com with any pictures you would like me to include, what text you want, what colors you would like and any other ideas you have or styles you like and I will get you your holiday card!

If you are still interested in me designing a card for you and your family, I have decided to use Zazzle.com to create and sell my cards. I am really excited about it because you can choose from lots of different sizes {4.5"x5.5", 5"x7", 4"x9.25", or 5.25" square} and they all come with envelopes. They also print front and back, so I will create a design for both sides! And once we finish your design, I will send you the link and you order directly from them and pay there and they ship!

So if you would like me to design your card, email me at cynthiakayemeeks@yahoo.com and we can get started on the process!

I love contests!

Yes, I do!

But really, who doesn't like to win something every now and then?

Just this week I won a contest over at Creativity By Crystal and in honor of winning, I thought I would have my very own contest.

So do you want to know what you can win?

I will create a custom holiday card design just for you!

Here are a few samples I threw together, but the winner will get a custom creation in any color combination with or without pictures, and pretty much any style!

So to enter just leave a comment telling me that you want to be in the drawing before Wednesday November 18 by noon and I will pick a winner out of those who joined in. You can tell your friends too! I will enter your name an extra time if you blog about this contest yourself.

I will send the winner a JPEG five by seven holiday card that they can have printed any way they want.

All elements from here or here.
